Profile Hamish Sandison

Hamish is Non-Executive Chairman of Bird & Bird and Co-Head of its International IT Sector Group. He advises clients in the public and private sectors on major IT projects such as procurement, outsourcing and e-business agreements, including PFI/PPP and other third-party financed arrangements. Hamish also advises on contract management, restructuring and dispute resolution; software development, licensing and exploitation schemes; data protection, privacy and other e-commerce issues; public procurement law compliance.

Hamish coordinates the firm’s offshoring work across its network of offices in Europe and Asia. This includes advice over several years to government and major companies who wish to offshore their requirements to India and China, as well as advising Asian companies who wish to bid for business opportunities in the public and private sectors in Europe.

Hamish has law degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of California at Berkeley. He is a member of the Washington DC Bar and is qualified as a Solicitor in England and Wales. He has written books on software protection and international copyright. Computer Weekly has called him an “ever trenchant interpreter of the law”.
