Jorge Contreras is a partner in the firm's Corporate Department. He is co-chair of the Internet, E-Commerce and New Media Group and a member of the Life Sciences Group. Mr. Contreras joined the firm in 1992 and became a partner in 1999.

Practice
Mr. Contreras concentrates his practice on technology and intellectual property licensing and transactions. He has represented U.S. and international clients in connection with a wide variety of matters, including licensing, R&D, publishing, consortia, joint ventures, manufacturing, outsourcing, standards development and mergers and acquisitions. His clients are active in the fields of computer software, services and hardware, semiconductor devices and equipment, online content, retail, media, bioinformatics, biomedical research and pharmaceuticals.

From 2000 to 2002, Mr. Contreras practiced at the firm's London office. In 1997, Mr. Contreras spent four months in residence at the Mexico City office of Santamarina y Steta S.C., a major Mexican law firm.

Professional Activities
Mr. Contreras is chair of the American Bar Association’s Committee on Technical Standardization and Infrastructure, and vice chair of the ASTM Nanotechnology Subcommittee on International Law and Intellectual Property. He served on the Board of Overseers of the New England Aquarium from 2002 to 2005.

Mr. Contreras is an active lecturer, and has spoken at institutions such as Harvard, MIT, the London School of Economics, the International Bar Association, Practicing Law Institute and the Computer Law Association, covering a broad range of issues in technology law, the Internet and international law.

In 1999, Mr. Contreras was a fellow at the Harvard Law School Berkman Center for Internet and Society.

Honors and Awards
In 2000, Mr. Contreras was selected by the Boston Business Journal as one of the top "40 Under 40" business professionals in the city.
