Rory Graham is rated in the legal directories in the top tier of UK technology lawyers, having acted on over 100 transactions across the globe, with a deal value exceeding $26 billion. He is one of only 30 lawyers in the world to be rated by his peers as an expert in both IT and telecoms law.

Specialising in innovative, business-critical matters, Rory represents both users and providers in complex technology transactions, such as outsourcing and systems procurement. His clients include technology start-ups, as well as Fortune 500/FTSE 100 companies, financial institutions, retailers and manufacturers. He also handles software licensing for vendors and purchasers, and strategic contracts such as CRM system procurement, joint ventures and other alliances.

Rory’s recent work has included advising on the creation of Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) in Europe and the US, and he is noted as an expert in relation to these deals.

Rory trained in London and Hong Kong and became a partner in technology firm Bird & Bird at the age of 27. He subsequently headed the outsourcing practice of a global law firm, before joining the London office of Brown Rudnick in February 2006.

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS
  • Represented the Disney Group in the US and UK in relation to launching mobile services, including “ESPN Mobile”
  • Led the team advising H3G (the UK’s first 3G provider) in the outsourcing of the management of its UK network – the largest and most complex such outsourcing in the world
  • Acted for a UK government department on a review and renegotiation of US$8bn IT procurement contract
  • Advised Sony in the agreement of a multi-jurisdictional outsourcing with IBM
  • Led the team advising Fujitsu Services on a US$1.4bn outsourcing

  • Frequent speaker on technology law issues. He created two day courses on “Negotiating Telecoms Contracts” and “Negotiating Outsourcing Contracts” and was course director of IBC’s “Written Course on IT Law”.
  • Has spoken at seminars in various European countries, the US and India on outsourcing, MVNOs and other technology issues.
