Ms. Mehta is Of Counsel in Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz’s Washington, DC office. Her work focuses on advising US clients with regard to Technology Transactions, including software licensing, technology consulting agreements, hardware purchase, lease and maintenance agreements and similar transactions. She also advises US clients with regard to Indian law (she is an India licensed attorney since 1989), with regard to the impact of Indian law on relationships with a local business partner/collaborator, as well as in connection with setting up business in India. Additionally, she is engaged with Indian business groups seeking to do business or mergers/acquisitions in the US. Ms. Mehta obtained an LL.M. (and was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar) at Columbia University School of Law in 1996. Prior to joining Baker Donelson, she was at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Thelen, Marrin, Johnson & Bridges, and advising clients with regard to general Corporate Law, Securities Law, Mergers & Acquisitions, Equipment Leasing and Project Finance. In addition, she was in-house Technology Transactions counsel at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. India Education and Experience. Ms. Mehta obtained her LL.B. from the Delhi University Law School (First Class with Distinctions) and her license to practice in India in 1989. She did a combination of Transactional and Litigation matters, the latter before the District Courts, the High Court of Delhi and the Supreme Court of India. Her work included participation in a landmark Securities matter before the Supreme Court, appearances before the Monopolies and Restrictive Practices Tribunal, several Bank Litigation matters, Landlord Tenant matters and Family Law matters. Hindi is Ms. Mehta’s native language, and additionally, she is conversant in Urdu, Panjabi and Rajasthani (Marwari) languages. She has also studied Arabic and Mandarin Chinese. UK Education. Ms. Mehta’s undergraduate degree (B.A. Honours in Philosophy, Politics & Economics, 1986) is from Balliol College, Oxford University, where she was also the university’s Secretary to the National Union of Students. Other Points of Interest. Ms. Mehta obtained a diploma in public international law from the Hague Academy of International Law.
