D. Calab Gabriel is a partner in K & S Partners. He has been
practicing as an advocate and patent attorney for the last 26 years. He has
spearheaded the revocation of the Turmeric patent and re-examination of
Basmati Patent in USPTO on behalf of Government of India. He has also
been advising Government of India on various issues relating to
Intellectual Property. He has extensive experience in all aspects of
intellectual property laws with special emphasis on filing, prosecution and
enforcement of patents and designs in India and abroad. He has also
represented the Government of India in many International negotiations,
such as PLT, FAO, etc. He has authored various articles on topics relating
to patenting of pharmaceuticals, life sciences including biotech inventions
in India. He has made presentations extensively on various topics on
Intellectual Property in India and Abroad. He is a member of the
Parliamentary Committee that made the draft bill of the amendments to
the Indian Patents Act for submission before the Indian Parliament. He is
a member of various professional organizations including APPA, AIPLA,
AIPPI and FICPI.
