Rahul Matthan is one of the founding partners of Trilegal and the head of its technology practice based in Bangalore. He is a member of the management committee of the firm and is actively involved in a number of industry associations relating to the technology sector.

Much of Rahul's work is focused in an around information technology and high technology clients to whom his team offers a full range of services. His work includes, technology transfer, Intellectual Property strategy advice, technology M&A, venture capital investment, business process outsourcing, unfair competition, distribution and supply arrangements, dispute resolution relating to technology companies, electronic commerce, etc.

He has drafted the worlds first open source hardware distribution license for the Simputer, a handheld computational device that was rated by Time magazine as one of the top ten technologies for the planet. He has advised various departments of the Government of India in respect of policy matters pertaining to the national spatial data infrastructure, and intellectual property and is an active consultant to organizations involved in bringing e-governance solutions to various municipalities around the country. He is a member of the Product Forum of NASSCOM, the leading industry organisation for software companies where he assists in the development of appropriate strategies to foster innovation and product development strategies among technology companies in India.

Rahul Matthan's book, "The Law Relating to Computers and the Internet" is recognized as a seminal work on the subject and has been quoted by the Supreme Court in a recent landmark decision relating to the nature of software. As a recognized expert in the field he is frequently quoted in the national press on matters pertaining to information technology. He contributes regularly to national and international publications on the subject.

He is a frequent speaker at events pertaining to law and technology including at such national institutions as the Confederation of Indian Industry, the Manufacturers Association of Information Technology, the Indian Institute of Science, the National Institute of Advanced Studies (where he is a Senior Associate), the Indian Space Research Organisation and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He has spoken at conferences in India and as far afield as London, Palo Alto, Sao Paolo and Washington DC.
