Sunny Handa is a partner with Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Montreal office) and is co-head of the firm's national Information Technology Group. Sunny deals with information technology, intellectual property, communications (telecommunications and broadcasting) and electronic commerce matters as well a range of corporate/commercial matters relating to technology and communications businesses. Sunny also handles complex technology M&A deals and complex technology transactions such as IT outsourcing projects. He has been named as one of Canada's leading "Computer and IT" lawyers and as one of Canada's leading "Technology" lawyers by The Canadian Legal expert' Directory, and was recently named as one of Canada's top 40 lawyers under the age of 40. Sunny was also recently named to the Canadian's Who's Who directory. In the inaugural edition of The Best Lawyers in Canada, published in June 2006, Sunny was voted as one of the leading lawyers in Canada in a peer-review survey.
Sunny also has an active lifesciences/pharmaceuticals practice and has worked extensively for some of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies on a wide array of operational drug-related as well as corporate and commercial matters. Sunny is also a professor of law (adj.) at McGill University where he teaches Computers and the Law and Complex Legal Transactions (and has taught Communications Law, Copyright and Trademark Theory, Copyright and Information Technology Law and Mergers and Acquisitions Law in the past) and supervises graduate students. He has published widely in the legal literature and has also authored and co-authored a number of recent books on information technology, including E-Commerce Legislation and Materials in Canada (2005-2006 Edition), (LexisNexis Canada Inc.: 2005), Fundamentals of Information Technology (LexisNexis Canada Inc.: 2004), E-Commerce Legislation and Materials in Canada (LexisNexis Canada Inc.: 2002), Copyright Law in Canada (LexisNexis Canada Inc.: 2002), Communications Law in Canada (LexisNexis Canada Inc.: 2000 updated three times annually), Venturing Offshore (Stoddart: 2000), CyberLaw (Stoddart: 1997), Getting Canada Online: Understanding the Information Highway (Stoddart: 1995) among others. Sunny is also the creator and general editor of the IT Law book series and has structured and edited a number of books including, Consumer Protection Online by Michael Deturbide, (LexisNexis Canada Inc.: 2006), Web Law - Agreements, Guidelines and Use Policies by Lisa K. Abe and Marie-Helene Constantin, (LexisNexis Canada Inc.: 2005), and Video Game Law by Jon Festinger, (LexisNexis Canada Inc.: 2005). He speaks frequently at conferences nationally and internationally, is frequently quoted by the media on information technology, intellectual property communications issues, and acts as an expert witness on technology matters. | ||
